Methane emissions and groundwater in the Northern Territory

Client

CSIRO’s Gas Industry Social and Environmental Research Alliance (GISERA)

GISERA is a collaboration between the CSIRO, the Australian Government, state governments and the gas industry. It was established to do publicly-reported independent research.

What I did

In 2018, I wrote the text for the following research project fact sheets.

Methane emissions in the Northern Territory’s Beetaloo Sub-basin: How much background methane is being emitted, and from where?

For this 2-page fact sheet, my source material was the project proposal and a media release.

Before any shale gas exploration is approved in the Beetaloo Sub-basin, baseline methane emissions from natural and human-derived sources will be measured. The results will inform the community, the Northern Territory Government and the gas industry.

Note, in 2019 this fact sheet was updated (not by me) with the research results.

Groundwater characteristics in the Beetaloo Sub-basin

For this 2-page fact sheet, my source material was the project proposal.

This project will collect and analyse groundwater samples from the Beetaloo
Sub-basin to create a baseline data set which can be used to measure the
potential impacts of proposed shale gas exploration.

Note, in 2019 this factsheet was updated (not by me) with the research results.
