Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact and Forest Peoples Programme
Under the Paris Agreement in 2015, governments promised to make global commitments to address climate change, in the form of ‘nationally determined contributions’ (NDCs).
Working with Indigenous authors in 10 countries in Asia (Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam), the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) led a review of the way in which the promises made by governments to date under their NDCs have been translated into real strategies, policies, laws and – critically – outcomes at national and local levels.
The 10 country reports and the overall summary recommend specific changes and are a baseline of the current situation in Asia for use by the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact, its member organisations, and Indigenous Peoples working on climate change and the rights of Indigenous Peoples.
What I did
I worked with AIPP’s Environment Programme Coordinator to bring consistency and clarity to the suite of reports, incorporating feedback from the 10 country authors.
I also edited the overall summary report.
The country reports are grouped by sub-region, with an overall summary report for Asia as a whole:
- Mekong region (Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam)
- Southeast Asia (Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia)
- South Asia (Bangladesh, India, Nepal).
